Parker has been attend ing a meeting of the Grand Lodge K. of P. at Durham as a representa tive from the Southern Pines Lodge No. 108. He reports a very pleasant trip. V. H. Barrell, Bath, Pa., Jas Buck ley, New York City, ' C. A. Adams, Washington, D. C,, and J. J. McSoiley of Lowell, Mass., compose a pleasant qnartet 'now stopping with friend Giles at the Southern Pines hotel. Maj. Fred Hope, of the Treasury Department at Washington has been a visitor for ten days, stopping at the Inn. He came to get rid of a bad case of Grip and has succeeded admirably. He is thoroughly in love with South ern "Pines and wiil conie again as soon as possible. The Free Press clay -pigeon con test ended last Wednesday and Mr. V. D. Kenerson is the winner of the cup a handsomely engraved medal made of gold and onyx. His score was 76 out of a possible 100 targets. Mr. H. A. Page of Aberdeen made a creditable score, but did not take all the targets of the contest. Mr. Ken erson 's team the American shooters won the banner 9 times out of 10, and he is justly proud of his victories. J. I. Hall last Monday evening, before his departure for his home in Pittsburg. Some splendid music was furnished by Messrs. Bunce and Douglass, and delicious refreshments served. Mr. Hall went away with many good im pressions of our town and will come again at the first opportunity. WEDDING BELLS. Friend Brewer stole a march oh the editor and got married without letting him knw it, but friend Torbert was not quite equal to the occasion, as we see the announcement of his coming marriage to Miss Tarbell in a Penn sylvania paper. We shall keep our matrimonial department better inform ed, and if possible let our readers know who'll be the next to desert the "beaten paths of single cussedness" for that happy highway of domestic felicity which can only come through a union of two hearts that beat as one. FRUITGROWERS UNITE. We are pleased to note an increas ing interest in the Moore and Cumber land Counties' Fruit Growers Associ ation, recently organized with head quarters at Southern Pines. Mr. J. E. Buchan, of Manly, is president, and Mr. P. H. Beck, of this place is Sec retary. Articles of incorporation are being drawn up and a charter will be asked for. CHA UTAUQUA WORK, It was our insention to announce the committees for Chautauqua work in this issue of the Free Press, but we have been too busy to give the matter proper attention. They will be announced in next week 's paper, and in the mean time we shall arrange the committee on by-laws to such an extent that we shall have something definite in the way of plans, methods, etc., to present for the consideration of the public. We are pleased to note a growing sentiment in favor of the movement and wish to thank those who have interested themselves for hearty support. C. F. T. CARS. Mr. W. M. Cook, agent for the Swift Co. C F. T. Cars, has been stopping with friend Giles at the Southern Pines Hotel this week. For several years Mr. Cook has been com ing to this section during the fruit season, and as his cars and methods of transportation have given universal satisfaction he is always a welcome visitor. As our prospects are very bright for an immense fruit crop Mr. Cook will soon be with us aggin and will be pleased to continue his excel lent car service from this station throughout the fruit season.
